Restoring Plymouth CUDA 1970

At this moment, total CUDA restoration is running. It is one of the most valuable Muscle cars from this era. Our car is real 1970 Cuda (with documents) with big block 440cui engine and automatic transmission. We have arranged complete body restoration, complete floor exchange and original “Plum Crazy” paint.

Now we have to work on interior and other parts.

We are doing everything with the focuse on details and originality of the car.

On the following pictures you can find current status of the car and all the following progress.

Update March 2015

New original 440cui engine with transmission is arriving from US. It is original CUDA engine with Cuda 727 transmission.

New paint has been finished and now it is time to start completing the car.

Whole restoration is much more complex than I thought in the beginning and of course, much more expensive.

New details, new original parts, it is a lot of investment ...

I hope it will end soon.

September 2016

As I found out about a year later, the paint failed. In the sun began to make small blisters. After consultation with experts, a major non-compliance with the technological procedure and the resulting “pimples” were found. What with this? The author of the paint did not want to have anything to do with the result of his “work” and the car with acne did not look very good.

So the only way is to grind everything down to the sheet metal and start from scratch. But for now I'm not in the mood at all, so the lacquer will wait until I can get a better color expert. Meanwhile, we will restore other parts.

September 2018

Finally, and after a long time, we have managed to find, perhaps, a good expert in preparation and painting. The car was transported to Pilsen and endless work began, consisting in the complete grinding of the entire body to the sheet metal and subsequent multiple spraying of protective, base and other layers for maximum quality and durability. Grinding, spraying, grinding, spraying, etc. The final color “In Violet” (called Challenger more aggressively - Plum Crazy) followed by paint layers looked more than well. I picked up the final sprayed body in August 2019.

At least there was enough time to prepare the place for the final assembly of the car.

August 2019

Painted body I took almost at the end of the holiday and the color and according to independent experts turned out very well. So I just hope that in a year the car does not get acne again. But the CUDA is not the teenage anymore, so this time, everything will end hapilly.

September 2019

I was already looking forward to the whole car being made up of new and refurbished parts. But before that I have to restore both axles, which were installed on the car in the original condition even during the paintwork. So removal, completely disassemble, sandblast and bring everything to the perfect state. Rear axle with 8.75” differential: new color, new seals, new bearings, new 10” drum brake set. Front axle also completely new all the elements for perfect driving. All originally rubber elements replaced with polyurethane. Refurbished front disc brakes including new brake discs and wheel hubs. And of course all of this includes the refurbished original Rallye Wheels, now in powder paint and with new tires. New steering elements and refurbished steering gear.

November 2019

The car is almost complete from the outside, ie petrol tank, rear suspension, rear valance panel, rear, side and front lights including fog lights, front grille and turn signals, rocker panel moldings, door handles, etc.

And now is the time to start working on the interior ...
